Dear Jesus, Please Help Me Wrap This Gift For My Country

For the past two weeks, we felt the excitement and the enjoyment of opening a few gifts from our friends and loved ones. I also felt the joy of getting some and of course the bliss of giving more thus, I have managed to give a number of holiday presents to my close friends and members of my family. I have shared some simple material things that would be of  use to their studies and work.  I also  have volunteered a couple of times in the simplest form of helping the Yolanda survivors, I was at the Booth  7 of Villamor Airbase's  Oplan Salubong on December 8 and repacked goods at the Valenzuela City Action Center as part of my Christmas gifts to my fellowmen who were ravaged by the supertyphoon. But if I would be asked to give one most important gift for my country this new year, what then would I prepare to wrap? Over the years, the Philippines has been through a lot of struggles and challenges. Time and again the government's capacity to resolve the country's problems has been questioned. A lot of us Filipinos suffered pain, hunger, and even death during different disputes and calamities. If we spare a thought, perhaps we can list down priceless gifts to wrap and of course offer them to all of the Filipinos to make a difference to our entire country. I actually have a ton of wonderful and precious gifts in my head. But as much as I would want to enumerate thousands of gifts for our country and its people to enjoy that would bring not only smiles to Filipinos lips but a difference to our lives, I just chose the most significant one. However, I am not really capable of giving it. Therefore, I have prayed and asked our most powerful God to  help me wrap this paramount and most important gift for all of us. Because every good thing is started with a desire for a better life, a better Philippines, and a nation that promotes and supports #GlobeProjectWonderful2014, I know that Jesus has assisted me in preparing this gift. Let us not forget that " Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above."  "Dear Jesus, please help me give our country  a gift that is wrapped in Your love and tied with a beautiful ribbon of understanding, selflessness, and sacrifice."  A great leader is my gift for my entire country, a leader who has good gifts and substantial qualities that are innate. For the millions of  Filipinos in need of good leaders and hungry of  good governance, a Gift of Leadership is primarily what our country needs the soonest. As we enter this new year, we need to face the future with the gifts of faith, hope, strength, enlightenment, healing, wisdom, and forgiveness. And for that, having a leader armored with a great Gift of leadership will gear our country towards a better life, a better future,  and a better Philippines.

I also wish that my gift be turned into reality, but my question is how? How could I gift my country a leader with great qualities? Well, I could never ever be able to do that. But as a public school teacher, I could train and teach our young people to be one.  Remember, "Teachers can make and unmake a child."  So I thought of one way to help my wish be realized. With the aid of #GlobeProjectWonderful2014, We could distribute a lot of free books to different colleges and universities about effective leadership, good governance, team building, and other books on building a better nation for college students. We could organize groups in all secondary and tertiary schools that will be supervised by Globe people whose mission and vision focus on quality leadership and helping the ones in need. We could also make and distribute big story books  about loving our country to preschoolers and primary pupils. With all these, the young Filipino generation will truly be inspired and understood what nationalism is all about.

My wish would also then be realized by training and leading our nation's future leaders. Hence, I would also love to be an instrument and a leader of  #GlobeProjectWonderful in rebuilding schools. A school is an anchor to a strong community that shapes great national leaders.  I already signed up at http://www.projectwonderful.ph/ because I want to be a part of Globe's wonderful projects to the Philippines in rebuilding schools where our next responsible frontrunners, innovators, and government leaders will be fashioned . Come and join me be a part of making the Philippines the most wonderful country in the world.

  1. I agree. It was like you peeked into my mind and penned my thoughts. I have been dreaming of experiencing in my lifetime a country run by a good leader. There is a good leader among the country's population waiting to be given the opportunity to lead us. If there is one thing I can give the Philippines, it is the gift of wisdom to the people. The wisdom to choose the leader. Let us not allow over and over again to be fooled by greedy politicians who abuse their positions for their personal gain.

  2. Thanks Ms. Roselle Toledo. We all dream of a different Philippines being ruled by a right, honest, and a worthy leader. But we can not have that deserving leader if we Filipinos will never have the wisdom to choose one. Soon, time will come that we will have a true Filipino leader worth emulating. Together, we can make a difference for our nation.

  3. I think that the best gift for the Philippines would be schools that train students on leadership, good governance, being nationalistic, and protecting the environment. Our country needs to have Filipinos who are loving, forgiving, and God-fearing, these are always taught our churches' leaders. But lessons on being a good citizen of our country is only tackled in school in EsP or GMRC as well as Sibika and Kultura only for a few minutes. As a student, I haven't learned so much about being a great citizen of our country, therefore; it's about time to build schools that train my co-youth of today about valuing our country more.

  4. Mas mainam po na mabigyan ang Pilipinas ng mas maraming mga ospital o health centers upang magkaroon ng tsansa ang lahat ng mamamayan na makapagpagamot ng mura o libre.

  5. One thing I can give to our country is a cure for ignorance. If all Filipinos are well-educated,they will not be blinded by sweetly toxic words of those individuals who only want to gain power and money. They're the ones who thrive but we're the ones who suffer. The cure begins in a classroom that consists of innocent yet aspiring young minds and a channel who bridges the gap between ignorance and wisdom. Ma'am Eloi we are the channels because we teach not just to earn a living but to nurture the living. We can fight as long as our minds are ready for battle. Education is simply the cure.

  6. Thank you so much Ma'am Lougee! Education is really important to the development of the country. It is indeed an instrument to social change, one most significant investments the Philippines can make for its people and its future that will eliminate problems on poverty and inequality. Education is more than reading, writing, and arithmetic.Education encourages good governance, great leadership, transparency, stability, and sustainable economy. Education also is a tool to eradicate graft and corruption. More than 90 million Filipino people are definitely waiting for a difference. If only we could educate them all properly. And as channels to nurture our country's young minds, you and I and the rest of the Filipino teachers with the aid of #GlobeProjectWonderful, together can make a huge impact and help our country unlock the potential of becoming a better Philippines.

  9. Thanks for dropping by Sherwood. I have also been dreaming that all Filipino families will be able to have their own houses. If this happens no more Pinoys will live in creeks, under the bridges, near the river and railroads and other places that are not really habitable and dangerous to many.

  10. Nice post! I agree with you, too. For me, what I would give the Philippines is a cup of coffee so that Filipinos would wake up and get started on what they should do for their country. Simple things such as recycling, no smoking in public areas or even simply not wasting water would help big time.

  11. Thanks Mona Verdida for your comment. I am a coffee lover. You're right, big things really come from simple ones. If only Pinoys would be better citizens of our country who follow rules religiously, Philippines will be a better one.

  12. If there’s one thing that I can give my dear country that would be …. The gift of Health. I want to do a medical mission with the help of Nuffnang Philippines and Globe thru #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014

Health is wealth. No amount of money, time and effort can ever, ever, bring the best of your health back, once it’s gone.
In my 6 years of practice as a nurse, I have seen how our healthcare system struggles to provide quality care for our countrymen, may it be in manpower, medicines, or equipments both in the community and hospital.

I’ve seen people deteriorating day by day because they can’t afford to go to a doctor. I’ve seen patients die because their families didn’t have enough money to buy basic medicines.

I am believing that we can do something about this. One of those needy, ailing, indigent patients could be your mom, dad, granparent, relative, dear friend, loved one…
In short, we are all CONNECTED, one way or another. So it is not just a matter of “about them” and “about us” because it is ABOUT US — ALL OF US.

  13. Thanks Cristelle. Projects on health care is also one important thing that our country needs the most these days.

  16. As a student, I see education as an integral part of our country. If there's one thing I would like to give, it's school. I believe that there are things that can't be learned in our homes.. but can be taught in schools. There are remote areas here in the Philippines which do not have any established school. I won't let Filipino children grow without any proper education. So, building more schools is important. Because if all of us are educated, we can unite to have a good and progressive country :)

  17. Thanks Ayah Paasa. Education is indeed a framework that builds a great country. Building more schools is really one solution to our country's problems. Educating everyone is a way to be able to influence the Filipinos intellectual, moral, and social development that leads us to a progressive country.

  19. I am definitely sure that my country deserves everything that encourages optimism, hope, and equality. If I were given the chance to gift my country with something very special that will make a difference to its people, it would be to let every Filipino citizen receive the gift of knowledge. Knowledge is vital to anyone’s success. It keeps people become more well-rounded, responsible, functional, and fully aware of the things around them. It keeps them responsive, sensible, and disciplined. It keeps people mindful of their significant roles to their country and countrymen. It keeps them optimistic. It gives them encouragement to do what’s right and good for others. It pushes them until they find the best formula to solve problems and challenges in life.
The best way to give knowledge is to do things that will certainly strengthen and help provide education that are truly accessible to all .Schools are to be built in all barangays from Aparri to Jolo, from North to South and from East to West parts of the Philippines. Education Caravan (mobile schools, mobile libraries) that will tour all places in the Philippines with all possible Globe volunteers that are tapped will function as mentors or trainers. Through volunteerism, the program is also promoting the inclusion of marginalized people into the education system and improving their access to educational services. The right to education will shape more responsible people that value the nation more. Schools are the big influence to honing more nationalistic individuals, better citizens that are dutiful and dedicated to our country.

  21. My wish that I want to gift for my beloved country is a gift of, Reconstruction of Public Schools. I strongly believe that with the help of Nuffnang Philippines and Globe thru #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014, this wish of mine would be granted.
There are a lot of structures has been damaged with the typhoon Yolanda last November. Specially those schools that had been the evacuation area for the family that has survived that incident. I wish that before the school year starts this June 2014, students would be excited to come back to school and learn again. In this simple way WE can lessen the burden that they gone through, and perhaps forget it for a moment. When they see that they’re school is beautiful, there would feel a bit of Hope, even if its the slightest glimpse of Hope, surely they would realized that soon enough everything would be Okay.
For as long as there are people/organization would willingly make this project happen, nothing is impossible. If everyone of us wholeheartedly extend our help to the needy we can surpass every trials that comes along. #ProudPinay

  22. Thanks a lot Analyn Alonsagay for your nice comment. Reconstructing a lot of schools is really needed in all places that were affected by Supertyphoon Yolanda. I am praying that your wish be granted so that all the people of Leyte would feel happy soon. Take care.

  23. I want to give the gift of light to the Philippines. More specifically the gift of SOLAR POWER. As a victim of the super typhoon Yolanda, wherein we totally had no communication due to power outage for a while and even until now electricity has not been fully restored in many places that were in Yolanda’s path, having backup power coming from SOLAR Energy is truly indispensable. Too much chaos occurs in the dark at night when a lot of people cannot rest easy for fear of thieves and looters. Having light (literally!) in these dark and trying times is what we truly need. But I do also wish for every Filipino household, Yolanda victim or not, to have 100% sustainable hybrid homes and eco-friendly houses that combine rainwater harvesting and clean energy generation (THINK: UNLIMITED WATER SUPPLY & SOLAR POWERED HOUSES!). This way our electric bills and carbon footprints will be largely diminished as well as we can show our love for Mother Earth.

  25. Thank you Maria Velazquez-Franco for visiting my site.Switching to solar power is one way to limit the impact our household has on the environment. With electricity and water bills rising, solar powered houses will be of great help to us Filipinos. I hope that Globe pioneers the plan of designing such eco-friendly houses. Your wish has to be fulfilled soon. Anyway, I would like to congratulate all of you Yolanda survivors for showing your resilience and strength during the wrath of Typhoon Yolanda. I am sending my thoughts and prayers your way.
